Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms topped the Omaha Lancers Friday night by a final score of 5-2. It was the Phantoms fourth straight win, the longest streak of the season.
Despite Omaha carrying play early, it was the Phantoms who broke through first to open the scoring. Chase Pearson found Vas Kolias streaking down the left wing, and Kolias's one-timer beat Skog for his 6th tally of the year.
Youngstown would double its advantage later on in the first frame, when Pearson once again set up a goal, this time for Cam Morrison. It was Morrison's 28th goal of the campaign, the most amongst USHL rookies.
The Phantoms would extend their advantage to three just minutes into the second period, when Cam Morrison found Jason Cotton cutting towards the net. Cotton's wrist shot snuck past Skog for his 6th goal since joining the Phantoms in January.
Omaha would find some life early on in the final frame, when Nick Rivera buried a power play goal to make it 3-1. The Phantoms would respond quickly with a power play goal of their own just minutes later. Lukas Craggs was the beneficiary of some beautiful passing from Pearson and Matt Alvaro, and slid home his 12th goal of the season.
Morrison would score his second of the game on an empty net goal assisted by Jason Cotton. Jason French would score for Omaha with 20 seconds left to cut the Youngstown lead to three.
Ryan Bednard turned aside 24 of 26 Lancers shot attempts.
The two teams will meet again in Youngstown tomorrow night, as part of the Phantoms annual Hometown Heroes Night presented by Refresh Dental. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
