Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MADISON, WI - Charlie Gerard became the third player in the USHL this season to net four goals in one game, and ten other Muskegon Lumberjacks registered at least one point to help blast the Madison Capitols 7-1. It was the third hat trick by a Lumberjacks player this season, and the first since Rem Pitlick did it back on March 12th.
Muskegon jumped on the Capitols during the first frame of hockey with three unanswered goals. In his first game against his former team, Charlie Gerard opened the scoring with back-to-back goals four minutes apart. Gerard gave Muskegon a 1-0 lead with a power play goal 6:20 into the first period. Tyler Irvine and Chris Klack assisted on the first goal of the game. On his next shift, Gerard rifled a wrist shot into the back of the net to give Muskegon a 2-0 advantage. Five minutes later, the USHL leading scorer, Rem Pitlick netted his 45th goal of the season after a perfect pass from Collin Adams. Seven different Lumberjacks registered at least one point during the first frame of hockey, and Muskegon held a 3-0 lead after one period of play.
1:33 into the second period, Matej Paulovic gave Muskegon a four-goal advantage. The Capitols leading scorer Marcel Godbout cut the Lumberjacks lead to three, but the former Madison forward, Gerard, responded with his third goal of the game. Gerard wristed home his 18th goal of the season after passes from Nate Kallen and Chris Klack. Gerard's hat trick was the third by a Lumberjacks forward this season, and Muskegon took a 5-1 lead into the second intermission.
Muskegon added two goals in the third period to come away with a 7-1 victory. Adams netted his 24th goal of the season 11:04 into the third period. Three minutes later, Gerard tied the USHL game high, with his fourth goal in the game, to complete the Lumberjacks victory. Gerard is the third player in the USHL this season to record four goals in one game this season. Eleven different Lumberjacks skaters registered one point in Muskegon's largest victory of the season.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (26-24-7) will look to complete the weekend sweep of the Madison Capitols (24-25-8) when battle for the final time of the season tomorrow night at 8:05 p.m.
