Lincoln Stars News Release
Lincoln, Neb. - The Black Hawks survived the Stars' late-period surge en route to a 5-4 win in the Ice Box on Friday night.
Liam Pecararo opened the scoring at 10:50 of the first period when he fired a wrist shot five-hole on Stars goalie Peyton Jones.
The Black Hawks took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Sam McCormick added to the Hawks' lead 37 seconds into the second when he tapped in a no-look pass from Ryan Lohin.
The Stars got on the board three minutes later with Tanner Laczynski's 23rd goal of the season, putting a quick shot over the left shoulder of Black Hawks goalie Garrett Metcalf. Mike Gillespie and Anthony Wyse had the assists.
Waterloo held a one-goal lead for the majority of the period, but capitalized on a turnover in the defensive zone with 39 seconds left in the second to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes.
Laczynski added another for the Stars 39 seconds into the third, but again, the one-goal lead would not hold.
Waterloo added two more goals in the third to make it 5-2 and provide enough cushion to stave off a Stars come back.
Grant Jozefek scored twice in less than 10 seconds during the final two minutes of the game. Hoff picked up two assists to give him 100 career points.
Jones finished with 27 saves.
The Stars return to the Ice Box on Saturday, April 2 against the Sioux Falls Stampede. For tickets and more information log on to lincolnstars.com.
