Phantoms' Power Play Surprises Storm, Win 5-1

KEARNEY, Neb. - Three power-play goals in the second period leads the Youngstown Phantoms to a 5-1 win over the Tri-City Storm on Friday night. It was the first loss in the Storm's history to the third-year Phantoms franchise that makes Tri-City's all-time record 6-1-0 after the loss.

Tri-City (3-4-0, 6 pts - 6th in Western Conference) would open the scoring 5:52 into the first period, as C Nick Lappin scored on the power play for his seventh of the season from C Adam Chalpik and D J.D. Peterson. The goal makes it three-consecutive games with a power-play marker for the Storm.

Youngstown (5-2-0, 10 pts - 5th in Eastern Conference) would tie the game in the first period at the 14:38 mark on LW Pat Conte's third goal of the season. Conte would later be knocked out of the game following a fight with Peterson in the second period.

The Phantoms would score their season-high three power-play goals in the second period less than 10:34 into the frame. Center Dylan Margonari, RW Ryan Belonger and D Michael Gunn each scored on the man-advantage for the Phantoms, who entered the night with worst power-play percentage in the USHL - 4.8-percent.

Defenseman Jordan Young would cap the scoring with an empty-net goal at the 17:23 mark in third period. Young's first goal of the season came through a clearing attempt off the right-wing glass and bounced into the Tri-City goal from 175-feet.

Goalie Trevor Gorsuch (0-1-0), who made his USHL debut, ended the game with 22 saves on 26 shots in the loss for the Storm, while G Sean Romeo (1-0-0) finished the game with 42 saves on 43 shots earning his first win of the season for the Phantoms.

Tri-City ended the game 1-for-9 on the power play, while going 4-for-7 on the penalty kill.

The Storm will travel to Urbandale, Iowa on Saturday to play the Des Moines Buccaneers for the second time this season at Buccaneer Arena. Classic Hits 98.9 FM will air the game.
