Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
FARGO, North Dakota - The Fighting Saints were able to grind out another road win, finding enough offense to dispatch the Force in Fargo by a score of 4-1. The victory was the sixth in the row for the Fighting Saints, who improved to 7-2-0 on the season.
Neither team was able to break through in the first period, as each side registered nine shots on goal. The Fighting Saints controlled the outset of the game, while it was Fargo closing the gap with the final five shots of the period. Both teams had a powerplay opportunity, but neither was able to convert.
In the second period, with the Fighting Saints on the powerplay, Dubuque broke the scoreless tie. Shane Sooth fed Zemgus Girgensons near the net, who fired onto Force netminder Zane Gothberg. While Girgensons did not score, his shot allowed Shane Walsh to easily slide home the rebound for his second goal in as many nights, and a 1-0 advantage in the game.
The Saints would add another goal early in the third period. On the powerplay, Matt Caito held the puck in at the point, and swung it to Teddy Doherty, who fed Girgensons between the circles. 'Z' took care of the rest, beating Gothberg through the five-hole to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. John Doherty added some insurance for the Saints, tapping in a chance in front to increase the lead to 3-0. After the Force scored to make it 3-1, Elliot Grauer fed Max Gardiner for his first USHL goal - an empty netter. It was also Grauer's first USHL assist in his first game with the Saints.
The Fighting Saints will return home next Friday night to take on the Chicago Steel. After the match-up with Chicago, they will hit the road for a Saturday meeting with the Omaha Lancers. The game against Omaha will be the first of five on the road before the Fighting Saints return to play in the Key City on the night before Thanksgiving.
