Omaha Lancers News Release
Omaha, NE - Dylan Margonari scored three goals and the Youngstown Phantoms used a four-goal outburst in the second period Saturday night dropping the Omaha Lancers 5-2 in front of 2,638 fans at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Following the setback, the Lancers dipped to 4-3-1 on the year and now rest in sole possession of second place in the Western Conference with nine standings points.
The Lancers grabbed the game's opening goal just past the midway point of period one when, just 16 seconds into Omaha's first power play of the game, a perfect centering pass from Eli Lichtenwald found Casey Bailey in the slot who made no mistake in one-timing home his first career USHL goal. Jimmy Murray earned the secondary helper on the man-advantage marker scored 12:29 into the first period. The power play strike marked the fifth time in eight games this season that the Lancers have scored the game's first goal. Omaha doubled its advantage 16:03 into the opening period when Anthony Hamburg fed a centering pass from the right wing that deflected off a Phantoms player atop the goal crease and slipped across Youngstown goal line. Vince Pedrie earned the only assist on Hamburg's first goal of the season.
Youngstown seized control of the game though in the second period when the Phantoms broke out for four goals in the first 14 minutes of the middle stanza. Margonari got Youngstown on the board with his first goal of the night and second of the season 1:57 into the period. Then, 6:12 into period two, Todd Koritzinsky evened the game with his second goal of the year. The Phantoms took the lead for good 9:01 into the middle stanza when J.T. Stenglein fired home his second goal of the season from Alex Gacek. Youngstown capped its impressive period 13:13 into the frame with Margonari's second goal of the game and third of the season.
Youngstown landed the final dent on the scoreboard just 28 seconds into the third period when a left wing shot by Margonari found the back of the Omaha net completing the hat trick and the 5-2 victory for the Phantoms.
Youngstown goaltender Sean Romeo earned his second win of the season and second in as many nights after turning aside 17 of Omaha's 19 total shots. Meanwhile, Thatcher Demko, making his Lancers debut, suffered the defeat after 15 saves on 20 Phantoms shots on goal.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday evening when they head to Kearney, Nebraska for their first meeting of the 2011-2012 season with the Tri-City Storm.
