Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Youngstown Phantoms fell to the USANTDP U-18 team Saturday night by a final score of 3-1. It was the third straight game Youngstown failed to register more than one goal.
"The lack of goals is definitely cause for concern. Fatigue has been a problem for this club, lots of travel and lots of guys lost to injuries. We'll do whatever is needed to adjust," said Phantoms Head Coach John Wroblewski.
Team USA got on the board first, when Will Lockwood found a rebound and beat Phantoms' goaltender Ryan Bednard up high.
USA would carry a 1-0 advantage into the second period, until Luke McInnis tied the game for Youngstown with a blast from the point. McInnis ripped a slap shot past USA goalie Jake Oettinger off a feed from Connor Moore and Garrett Hall.
The third period was highly contested, with both goalies making big saves to preserve the tie. Just over five minutes into the final frame, USA defenseman J.D. Greenway carried the puck into the Phantoms end, waited patiently, and found Clayton Keller. Keller one-touched a pass to Kiefer Bellows, who beat Bednard to give USA a 2-1 advantage. Lockwood would add his second of the game, scoring an empty netter in the final seconds of regulation.
"We need to take these next few days and regroup, get the guys refreshed and excited to come to the rink and get things turned around," Wroblewski said.
The Phantoms will be back at the Covelli Centre on Wednesday, December 2 against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. It will be Youngstown's annual School Day Game, with puck drop set for 10:15a.m.
