Buccaneers Succumb to Green Bay Rally

November 27, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers scored 3 goals in just over two minutes of game action in the 2nd period to take a 3-0 lead into the third period, but weren't able to hold the lead and fell in overtime to Green Bay 4-3.

Both goaltenders looked solid in the first period, with Des Moines' Jan Ruzicka making ten saves and Green Bay's Kevin Reich stopping all seven shots he saw. Neither side was penalized at all in the first period and the solid defense and clean play kept it scoreless after one period.

Michael Montambault picked up his first goal in a Buccaneer uniform from in tight on Reich and beat him glove-side on a sharp-angle feed from Zach Jordan in the leftwing corner at 15:01 of the 2nd period to give his squad a 1-0 lead. Ty Pelton-Byce scored twice in a 24-second span, first from Will Harrison and then again from Nick Wolff to balloon the Bucs' lead to 3-0 going into the second intermission.

Green Bay quickly struck twice to start the third period with Jack Poehling scoring 37 seconds into the period and Cam Lee 90 seconds later. Marc Michaelis scored at the 14:02 mark of the period to get things tied and send the game into overtime.

Nick Poehling scored 5:08 into the overtime period in the 3-on-3 on a feed from his twin brother Jack as he wrapped around from behind the net and the puck just trickled across the line, sending Green Bay off victorious. Ruzicka ended the night with 32 saves and Reich got 27 in the win. Des Moines is in action next on Saturday night in Lincoln taking on the Stars.
