Madison Capitols News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Madison Capitols (7-10-0-0) will look to capture their second victory over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (10-6-1-0) in as many tries as they visit The Stable on Friday night.
It is already the two clubs' fourth meeting of the season. Cedar Rapids came away with a 5-1 victory on Oct. 3 in the lone other meeting in Cedar Rapids. The two teams split a pair of 2-1 decisions in Madison, with the Capitols winning the last head-to-head battle on Nov. 20.
Since their last matchup, Cedar Rapids and Madison have gone opposite directions, with the RoughRiders winning each of their last two games over Bloomington and Waterloo, each on the road. Cedar Rapids has potted 11 goals in its last two games. Meanwhile, the Capitols fell to 7-10-0-0 after a pair of losses: first in Chicago on Saturday and then on home ice as Waterloo prevailed 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Coliseum.
The Capitols will continue to try to locate their offensive game. Madison has scored two or fewer goals in four of its last five games. Garrett Metcalf had perhaps his best performance of the season between the pipes on Wednesday, stopping 41 pucks against the Black Hawks but dropping the tough decision, 3-1.
Ryan Edquist picked up the victory in net the last time Madison faced Cedar Rapids, as the University of Minnesota commit denied 27 shots on Nov. 20 in the 2-1 triumph. The 17-year-old has a 1.62 goals-against average and .943 save percentage in two games against Cedar Rapids this season.
The Capitols will quickly race back home to finish off a string of three games in four nights on Saturday night against the Green Bay Gamblers at the Alliant Energy Center. Puck drop on Saturday is set for 7:05 p.m.
Tickets to the third installment of the Wisconsin Cheese Cup series, presented by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, are available by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277) or visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com. Fans will receive specialty mustaches on Saturday to help promote men's health awareness to conclude "Movember."
