Peurifoy's Walk-Off Homer Secures Wild 6-4 Win on Tuesday

CHARLESTON, WV - Ryan Peurifoy and Rodolfo Castro launched a pair of homers in the ninth inning, with the former's marking the difference in a wild, 6-4 walk-off victory for the Power over the Augusta GreenJackets in the series opener on Tuesday evening at Appalachian Power Park.

Castro led off the ninth with his second homer in as many games to tie the game at four. GreenJackets' pitcher Peter Lannoo (1-2) walked Mason Martin to put the tying run aboard before Peurifoy launched the first pitch he saw over the left field wall to give the Power their first walkoff home run since August 25, 2017.

Matt Seelinger (1-1) tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his first win of the year. He has only allowed three hits in six innings pitched for West Virginia on the season.

With the Power (14-11) trailing 3-0, Deon Stafford led the charge to begin the seventh with a single back up the middle. After that, Oneil Cruz stroked his third triple of the year to score Stafford and tally West Virginia's first run of the game. Cruz would score just moments later when Castro lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that moved the score to 3-2 GreenJackets (17-7).

Augusta doubled their lead in the top of the eighth when Orlando Garcia hit his first homer of the year to make it 4-2, but the Power were not done.

Leading off the eighth, Lolo Sanchez hustled out of the box on a routine fly ball to left fielder Jean Angomas and was rewarded when he dropped the ball, receiving a two-base error. After two ground outs, the Power were able to draw within one again, as Stafford brought in Sanchez.

GreenJackets starter John Gavin totaled a career-high six innings and punched out a career-best nine batters while only allowing one hit and a walk, but was handed a no-decision.

Augusta opened the scoring in the second inning behind a John Riley two-run shot down the left field line for his second homer of the year to give the GreenJackets an early 2-0 edge.

They were able to extend their lead in the fifth inning after Riley hit a single and advanced to second on a throwing error from West Virginia starter Travis MacGregor (1-1, 2.42 ERA). Riley would come around and score after a Martin fielding error allowed a sharply hit ball from Angomas to get by him into right. MacGregor tossed five innings and struck out eight batters in his fifth start of the year

The Power continue their three-game series against the Augusta GreenJackets on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. RHP Hunter Stratton (0-0, 14.73 ERA) will take the hill for West Virginia against RHP Jose Marte (2-0, 2.84 ERA).
