ABOUT LAST GAME: Columbia fought hard on Sunday, but fell to the GreenJackets, 2-0, at SRP Park. Catcher Scott Manea had a fine day: he reached base twice and threw out two baserunners.
THE STREAK: Jeremy Vasquez reached base again on Sunday. Vasquez has reached base safely in all 23 games he's played in this season - the best streak for all of Low-A and is the fourth-longest active streak in all of pro baseball (MLB & MiLB).
1. 26, Odubel Herrera (Philadelphia Phillies)
2. 25, Logan Taylor (Modesto Nuts, SEA, A+)
3. 24, Tyler White (Fresno Grizzlies, HOU, AAA)
4. 23, Jeremy Vasquez (NYM, A)
He is one of the most patient hitters in the SAL, too - he's first in the league in walks (20) and second in on-base percentage (.455). The 23-game on-base streak is a new franchise record, passing Jay Jabs, Luis Carpio and Andres Gimenez's 17 straight that each set during the 2017 season.
CHEERS: Vasquez was named South Atlantic League Player of the Week for April 23-29. The lefty slugger hit .360 (9-for-25) with five extra-base hits (three 2Bs, one 3B, one HR), four RBI, five runs scored and two walks.
SWING AND MISS STUFF: Columbia hurlers lead the South Atlantic League in strikeouts and also rank in the top five across all of Minor League Baseball.
- Rancho Cucamonga (Adv-A): 268 K
- Inland Empire (Adv-A): 264 K
- Buies Creek (Adv-A): 261 K
- Quad Cities (Low-A): 258 K
- COLUMBIA (Low-A): 253 K
The team matched a franchise record for strikeouts in a game on April 16, 2017 (17).
