Asheville Tourists News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - Lucas Gilbreath had waited nine days to take the mound and on Tuesday night in Charleston his day finally came. The Asheville Tourists lefty last pitched on April 22nd in West Virginia and he was more than ready to attack the Charleston RiverDogs.

Gilbreath pitched five shutout innings in his longest outing of the year and improved his record to 2-0. The Tourists never trailed and defeated the RiverDogs by a final score of 3-1.

Asheville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Casey Golden worked a two-out walk. Golden promptly stole second base and Sean Bouchard drove him in with a double to deep right field. The Tourists added one more in the third when Bret Boswell singled home Shael Mendoza from second base.

Charleston's lone run came on a Dalton Blaser Home Run in the seventh inning; however, the Tourists were quick to respond. With Golden at third base in the eighth, Ramon Marcelino stole second. Golden raced home when the throw went to second and scored after Charleston's catcher dropped the ball.

The Tourists bullpen combination of Justin Valdespina, Ben Bowden, and Tommy Doyle pitched the final four frames and combined for five strikeouts. Doyle tossed the ninth to notch his second save of the year.

Ryan Vilade, Bouchard, and Marcelino all finished with two hits. The Tourists were also flawless defensively. Asheville made a number of great plays including an outfield assist from Golden and a diving catch by Mendoza.
