Drive Defeated by Shorebirds on Tuesday
May 1, 2018 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Salisbury, MD - Tuesday's series opener between the Greenville Drive and Delmarva Shorebirds was dominated by the home team, as the Shorebirds took an early lead and never looked back in a 7-1 victory.
The Shorebirds (17-8) scored four unanswered runs over the first seven innings, and Trevor Craport took it upon himself to do most of the damage. His RBI double in the second put Delmarva up 1-0, and he came home on a ground rule double in the frame by Breazeale.
Craport tagged Drive (5-20) starter Denyi Reyes (2-2) for a solo homer in the fourth, and he added a second solo blast in the seventh off Juan Florentino to make the score 4-0.
Marino Campana ended Delmarva's shutout attempt in the top of the eighth with a solo home run to left, his third long ball of the season.
The Shorebirds scored three times in the bottom of the eighth for good measure, thanks to a two-run double by Seamus Curran and a run-scoring single by T.J. Nichting.
Michael Baumann (3-0) got the win for Delmarva with six scoreless innings of work. Reyes pitched well in defeat for Greenville, striking out nine hitters over six innings while allowing three runs.
Campana notched two of the Drive's three hits in the game, while Pedro Castellanos added the other hit.
A pair of southpaws will face off on Wednesday night at 7:05 in Salisbury. Enmanuel De Jesus (0-0, 0.00) takes the mound for the Drive after firing four scoreless relief innings in his season debut on Thursday, and the Shorebirds will send Cameron Bishop (2-1, 1.44) to the hill.
