Petes Hosting Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Packing Party
November 11, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - On Monday, November 16 at 10:30am in the Peterborough Memorial Centre Alumni Room, Petes players and local homeschooled children will be hosting a shoebox packing party in support of Operation Christmas Child (OCC).
OCC runs an international initiative to send shoeboxes full of toys, school supplies, hygiene products, and more to underprivileged children around the world. At the shoebox packing party, the Petes and children will be packing shoeboxes to send overseas. Donations are still being accepted for the party, and can be made by contacting Samantha Cameron by email.
In addition, Petes fans have been picking up empty shoeboxes from Samaritan's Purse volunteers all month. Filled boxes can be dropped off at the Petes Office from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, or at the Petes home games on November 14 and 18.
So far, over 150 empty boxes have been distributed at Petes games, and $540 was raised during a chuck-a-puck on November 5. Fans are encouraged to fill their boxes and help the Petes surpass last season's total of over 160 full shoeboxes donated. In 2014, Canadians filled over 700,000 shoeboxes to be sent to over sixteen countries worldwide.
On the ice, tickets are still available for the Blind Hockey International "Seeing is Believing" game night on Saturday, November 14 by phoning (705) 743-3561, visiting the PMC Collins Barrow Box Office, or online. Be sure to download the new Petes Mobile App for Android or iPhone for the latest news, contests, info, and the Petes Loyalty Rewards Program.
