Petes Acquire Conditional Pick for Rights to Jonne Tammela

January 10, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Peterborough Petes News Release

(Peterborough, ON) - Peterborough Petes General Manager Mike Oke announced on Tuesday that the team has acquired a conditional pick from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in exchange for the Ontario Hockey League rights to centre Jonne Tammela.

Tammela was originally selected 15th overall by the Petes in the 2015 CHL Import Draft. The 5'10", 180lbs native of Ylivieska, Finland appeared in two games for the Petes during the 2016-17 season, registering 1 goal. He was drafted in the 4th round, 118th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In exchange for his rights, the Petes have acquired a conditional 15th round pick in 2018 from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. If Tammela appears in one game for the Greyhounds, the pick will become Sault Ste. Marie's 3rd round pick in 2022.

"Having solidified the overage spots on our roster, and with real uncertainty as to whether Jonne would be able to return to the OHL, this move allows us to secure a draft pick," commented Oke. "If he does come back, we'll be compensated for it."

The Petes host the Guelph Storm this Thursday, January 11 at 7:05pm for the only time this season. Game tickets are available starting at $8 through the Collins Barrow PMC Box Office, online or, by phone at (705) 743-3561.

Petes Holiday Flex Packs are available while supplies last. Receive four regular bowl flex vouchers to be used between now and January 20, as well as two Petes rocks glasses for just $59.99, a savings of over 40%.

The Peterborough Petes are the oldest continuously operating team in the Ontario Hockey League, having won nine OHL championships and one Memorial Cup championship over 61 years. The Petes have graduated over 180 players to the National Hockey League. For more information, visit, get the Petes App, and follow the Petes on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
