BULLDOGS ACQUIRE DEFENSEMAN NICOLAS MATTINEN FROM FLINT

HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The Hamilton Bulldogs have added depth to their blue-line by acquiring defenseman Nicolas Mattinen from the Flint Firebirds.

In return, the Bulldogs send defenseman Riley McCourt, a 2nd round draft pick in 2023, a 5th round pick in 2023 and a conditional 2nd round draft pick in 2024 to Flint.

Mattinen, a 19-year old native of Ottawa, was the Toronto Maple Leaf's 6th round pick (179th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft. The 6'5, 218-pound rearguard has registered 5 goals and 17 assists this season with the Firebirds. He spent parts of the last two seasons in London where he had 18 points in 105 games for the Knights.

"Nicolas is a player we have coveted and has the skill set that fits perfectly with our defense core, says Bulldogs President and GM Steve Staios. "He has shown some offensive upside with the Firebirds while also taking on more responsibility in all situations."

Riley McCourt has 1 goal and 8 assists in this, his first full season in the OHL. He was the Bulldogs 3rd round pick (45th overall), in the 2016 OHL Priority selection. "Riley has been a model citizen and a great teammate here in Hamilton. He has committed himself both on and off the ice over the course of the last two years," said Staios. "Riley has a bright future and we wish him nothing but the best in Flint."
