GREENSBORO - One team was guaranteed to snap its current losing streak with Greensboro entering Thursday's match-up on a six-game skid and the visiting Delmarva Shorebirds having dropped their last five.
Bryan Petersen tried to make it the Hoppers that would leave with the win; but for the third time in as many games, Petersen hit a home run only to see his team surrender their early lead and fall 9-2, extending Greensboro's losing streak to a season-long, seven games.
Both Greensboro runs were scored courtesy Petersen's 15th blast of the season. After a one-out double by Ryan Curry, Petersen belted a Luis Noel pitch over the right-field wall just as quickly as it was delivered.
Curry's double extended his current home hit streak to 11 games. His streak is the second-longest active streak in the South Atlantic League.
For Petersen, it was his third consecutive game with a homer and the second-straight game with a first-inning home run. The center-fielder also singled in the bottom of the third inning for the Hoppers; it was Greensboro's fourth and final hit of the game.
A season-high 8,813 was in attendance for the first of three fireworks shows on the weekend. Friday and Saturday's games will also feature post-game firework displays; both games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. before the series finale on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
