GreenJackets Rally for Win over Charleston

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 12-3) won their second straight game over the Charleston RiverDogs (45-25, 5-9) on Thursday night with a 5-4 win. Andrew Davis drove in three runs to lead the offense and Waldis Joaquin recorded the win in relief.

With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning the GreenJackets plated two runs for a 5-3 lead. Thomas Neal broke the tie with an RBI single scoring Angel Villalona for a 4-3 lead. Davis followed with an RBI double to give Augusta a much needed insurance run for a 5-3 lead.

The RiverDogs got one run back in the top of the ninth inning off Andrew De La Garza when Abraham Almonte connected for a two-out RBI single to pull within one, 5-4.

De La Garza recorded his second save of the season allowing the one run in the ninth inning on two hits.

Joaquin (1-1) worked three innings in relief allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits. Joaquin did not walk a batter and struck out one.

The GreenJackets fell behind in the fourth inning when Bradley Suttle connected for a one-out solo home run off starter Gib Hobson to put Charleston up 1-0.

Augusta came back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Davis connected for a two-run double then Nestor Rojas followed with an RBI double to put the Jackets up 3-0.

Hobson recorded the no-decision allowing just the one run on three hits over five innings in his first professional start at the Single-A level. Hobson also walked one and struck out two.

The RiverDogs got single runs in the seventh and eighth innings off Joaquin to tie the game at 3-3. Prilys Cuello connected for an RBI ground out in the seventh inning then Suttle connected for his second home run of game to lead off the eighth.

The GreenJackets and RiverDogs will play the third game of their four game series on July 4 with Augusta sending lefty Madison Bumgarner (8-2, 1.77) to the mound. The RiverDogs counter with right-hander Dellin Betances (4-3, 4.09). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
