Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Greensboro, NC- Luis Noel found his rhythm, the offense broke out with 16 hits, and the Shorebirds snapped their season-long five game losing streak with a 9-2 win over the Grasshoppers on Thursday night in Greensoro. After allowing a two-run homer in the first, Noel proceeded to shut down the Hoppers over the next six innings. Meanwhile, the Delmarva offense, which had scored just 10 runs in its last four games, plated nine unanswered runs, the first seven of which all came with two outs. Kieron Pope began the onslaught with his seventh homer of the year, a solo shot in the second that got the Birds within a run. An inning later, Tyler Henson's two-run double plated two more and the Shorebirds had a 3-2 lead. On the night, Matt Angle and Matt Tucker, the one and two hitters in the Delmarva lineup, combined to go 6-9 with four runs scored. Kieron Pope also chipped in two singles along with his second inning bomb. Noel became the first Shorebird pitcher to win his eighth game this season. After a rocky first few innings, Noel did not allow a hit after the third and earned his first victory of the second half. Delmarva hands Greensboro their seventh consecutive loss and takes a 5-4 lead in the season series, which will continue Friday evening as the Shorebirds spend the Fourth in Greensboro.
