Hot Dog Eating Championships At Lake Olmstead Stadium

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets and Dino's Chicago Express are set for the first ever Augusta Hot Dog Eating Championships. The contest will be held after the game on Friday, July 4.

Dino's Chicago Express, along with the GreenJackets, has been hosting several hot dog eating competitions over the summer at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The contest were held during every Thursday night home game this season and the past six winners will all get together on Friday, July 4 to find out who is the best of the best.

"This should be a real fun event and we have had fun with this all season long," GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown said. "Although Kobayashi didn't make it to this event, we still had some people that came out and put on quit a show when it comes to eating hot dogs."

Although the six time International Hot Dog Eating Champion Takeru Kobayashi will not be in the contest, there will be other special guests included in the hotdog eating contest. The competition will take place after the game on Friday and before the post game fireworks.

The winner of the contest will get a choice of prizes, either $200 in cash or a trip for two to Weiner, AR. The winner of the contest will also receive a trophy commemorating the First Annual Dino's Chicago Express Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Dino's Chicago Express has been serving the CSRA with the best Vienna Beef hotdogs and Greek food since 2000. Dino's Chicago Express teamed up with the GreenJackets for the 2008 season to serve some of Dino's best food at Lake Olmstead Stadium. Located on the third base side and with the name of Papa and Sons, fans can experience Gyro's, a Greek chicken salad and much more

According to American folk lore, the very first hot dog eating contest occurred on July 4, 1916 at Coney Island between four individuals to find out who was the most patriotic. Ever since then a hot dog eating contest has been held annual on Coney Island around Independence Day.

The GreenJackets are in the middle of a four game home stand against the New York Yankees affiliate, the Charleston RiverDogs. Augusta currently sits 1.5 games up in first place in the Southern Division with an overall record of 52-31.
