WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 17, 2015) - Jake Peter extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a home run in the first inning, but the Myrtle Beach bullpen was perfect as the Pelicans clipped the Winston-Salem Dash 5-2 on Wednesday at BB&T Ballpark.

Winston-Salem (28-37) had a 2-0 lead heading into the sixth while their starting pitcher James Dykstra (3-5) had not allowed a base hit since Mark Zagunis singled to lead off the game. However, Dykstra yielded a one-out single to Trey Martin and then gave up his first run of the game on Zagunis' triple. Two batters later, Chesny Young singled in Zagunis to knot the score at two. After a Jeimer Candelario base hit, Jacob Rogers drove in Young to put Myrtle Beach (38-27) on top 3-2.

Pelicans reliever Juan Paniagua (2-1) came into the game with one out in the fifth inning and went 2.2 innings with one strikeout to earn the win. He ceded to James Pugliese, who tossed a perfect eighth and ninth for his fifth save. The pair combined to retire all 14 Dash batters they faced, leaving Winston-Salem without a base runner after the fifth frame.

Peter clubbed a solo shot in the bottom of the first to give Winston-Salem the early 1-0 lead. That bomb extended his hitting streak to 20 games, making him the first Winston player to have a streak that long since Brandon Short's Dash-era 26-game hitting streak in 2010. It was the sixth time in the past seven contests that the Dash second baseman lengthened his hitting streak in the first inning.

With the score still 1-0 in the fifth, Michael Suiter reached on a bunt single to start the frame. An Adam Engel single advanced him to second before Suiter moved to third on a wild pitch. Peter then lofted a sacrifice fly to center to increase Winston-Salem's advantage to 2-0.

Myrtle Beach added to their lead with a run in the eighth on a Candelario single and another in the ninth on a Winston-Salem error to go up 5-2.

Dykstra took the loss for the Dash, surrendering three runs on seven hits in seven innings. He fanned six and walked just one.
