Peters Scores Again, But Stars Fall to Force
December 8, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Lincoln Stars News Release
Keaton Peters scored for the seventh time in the last six games but the Lincoln Stars fell to the Fargo Force, 2-1, on Friday night at the Ice Box.
Peters snuck behind the defense to score a shorthanded goal, his second of the season, at the 10:24 mark of the third. He moved into third on the team in goals, all of which have come since Nov. 22.
That tally tied the game after Harper Bentz struck 5:36 into the second period to break a scoreless tie but Lee Parks cashed in on a rebound opportunity at the 5:10 mark of the third to net the game-winner.
"We learned a lot about ourselves tonight," head coach Rocky Russo said. "We can play with anybody."
Stars goaltender Yan Shostak shined with 35 saves, his second-most in a game this season. He also recorded his first USHL point with the secondary assist on Peters' goal. It was the first point by a Stars goaltender since Kaiden Mbereko recorded an assist on Apr. 8, 2022 against Omaha.
The Stars don't have to wait long for a second crack at Fargo as they face the Force again on Saturday night at 6:05 in the second game of the triple header weekend. The series wraps up with a 5:05 p.m. game on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at lincolnstars.com.
