Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC â The Charlotte Checkers head coach Derek Wilkinson announced today that Eduard Pershin has agreed to terms for the 2004-05 Season.
"He's proven to be a top scorer on every team he's played for," said Wilkinson. "He'll certainly inject the club with a lot of offense and his versatility will be a key trait to our success."
Over the past two years, Pershin has accumulated 139 points in 135 games. A dangerous offensive threat who can produce from all three forward positions, the 6-foot, 195-pound wingman from Tatarstan, Russia, was originally selected by the Tampa-Bay Lightning in round #6, going 134 overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
"I'm very excited about returning to Charlotte," said Pershin. "The fans were great when I played for the Checkers back in 2002-03 and I know both coaches very well. I'm looking forward to playing for them."
August has been a busy month for the former Wheeling Nailer. In the past four weeks, Pershin got married, earned his real estate license, and learned he would be moving back to the Queen City. Said Pershin, "I like staying busy. August was busier than most in terms of my personal life but I hate sitting still." Pershin had just come off a successful season with the Checkers when he met his future wife in Uptown Charlotte last May.
With Pershin's arrival, the Checkers roster is now officially at 12. Goalie Mike Ayers, Wingmen Dusty Jamieson and Matt Chandler, defensemen Dan Preston, Clay Plume, Brett Petersen, and Kenton Smith, and forwards Allan Egeland, Justin Dziama, Tyler Lawson, and Cody Loughlean were all previously announced as having agreed to terms.
