
Perez shuts down the Power

CHARLESTON, WV (May 22, 2005) â Carlos Perez threw seven outstanding innings on Sunday afternoon, allowing a run on only four hits and struck out six batters while pacing the Delmarva Shorebirds in a 4-1 victory over the Power at Appalachian Power Park.
CJ Smith kick started the Shorebirds offense with a two run homer in the top of the first inning to put Delmarva up 2-0. Smith struck again with an RBI single in the top of the third inning to give Delmarva a 3-0 lead. The Power scored their only run of the game on Carlos Corporan's RBI single in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 3-1 ballgame. Delmarva scored the final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning when Arturo Rivas crossed the plate on an errant throw from catcher Carlos Corporan.
Carlos Perez (3-2) earned the victory, Trent Baysinger earned his first save and Mark Rogers (0-4) obtained the loss. The Power fall to 12-31 with the loss and the Shorebirds are 20-24 after the win.
The Power will continue the four game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds on Monday morning at Appalachian Power Park. Right Handed pitcher Brian Montalbo (0-1, 3.74) will throw for the Power and the Shorebirds will counter with right-handed pitcher Dennis Robinson (1-4, 3.94). The first pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM.
