Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)--The Lake County Captains pounded out 12 hits Sunday, including seven extra-base hits, during a 10-3 rout of the Lakewood BlueClaws at Classic Park.
It was the third consecutive win for the Captains (24-19), who remain in fourth place in the SAL North, 3 1/2 games out of first.
After falling behind 1-0 Sunday, the Captains batted around and scored four runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. With the bases loaded and one out, Juan Valdes belted a two-run double to center, and second baseman Argenis Reyes followed with a two-run triple off Maximo De La Cruz (1-6). Valdes' double snapped a personal 0-27 slump.
The BlueClaws (15-29) scored two unearned runs in the third off Captains starter Justin Hoyman to pull to within 4-3. Hoyman lasted just four innings in the game, giving up five hits and walking three.
Mike Butia's two-run homer in the fourth made it 6-3. Butia's homer, which hit the right field foul pole, was his second of the season. Valdes added another RBI single in the fifth, and Brian Barton chipped in an RBI double in the sixth to make it 8-3.
The Captains closed out the scoring in the seventh on Reyes' second triple of the game. That hit brought home Chad Longworth, who had singled. When the relay throw from John Hardy skipped past the plate, Reyes came home to score to make it 10-3.
Captains righthander Adrian Scau (2-2) picked up the win in relief for the Captains. Schau allowed only one hit in three innings.
The Captains and BlueClaws will meet again in game three of the series on Monday night at 6:35 (WELW AM 1330).
