BlueClaws Bats Cool off at Lake County

East Lake, OH – The Lakewood BlueClaws (15-29) and the Lake County Captains (24-19), Single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, resumed their series on Sunday afternoon with the Captains winning 10-3. Lake County scored four runs in the second inning and never looked back on their way to the win.

Lakewood took an early 1-0 lead in the first on Sam Orr's RBI base hit scoring Sean Gamble from second. The Captains came back with four runs in the second inning off starter Maximo De La Cruz (L, 1-6) to take a 4-1 lead. With the bases loaded and one out in the inning Juan Valdes connected for a two-run double to put the Captains up 2-1. Argenis Reyes added two more runs on a bases clearing triple and Lake County never relinquished the lead.

The BlueClaws cut the lead to 4-3 when they plated two runs in the top half of the third inning but couldn't get the equalizer.

The Captains tacked on two more runs in the fourth on a two-run homer from Mike Butia. Lake County added four more runs over the course of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Mike Dzurilla went 0-for-4 with a walk and a run scored to snap his 13 game hitting streak. Sean Gamble went 3-for-4 with two runs score and a walk.

De La Cruz allowed seven runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out four over the course of five innings.

The BlueClaws and Lake County continue their series Monday night at Classic Park. Right-hander Andy Baldwin (1-3, 4.97) will make the start for the BlueClaws while the Captains will send Chris Niesel (3-2, 4.97) to the hill. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. and on-air time at 6:20 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.

This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the great promotions this year, kids twelve and under eat free every Monday night home game courtesy of ShopRite. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and New York Mets.
