Kannapolis "Cooks" Bombers, 4-1

GREENVILLE, SC - First baseman David Cook went 4-for-4 with two home runs and a double to lead Kannapolis past the Greenville Bombers, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Cook, who now has seven homers this season, hit solo blasts in the second and fourth innings to help the Intimidators bounce back from a 16-4 series opening defeat on Saturday night.

Ray Liotta (3-0) earned the win, snapping a string of five consecutive no decisions. The lefthander allowed just one run over seven innings while striking out six batters. Greenville starter Adam Blackley (1-5) suffered a fifth consecutive defeat, yielding four runs, three earned, in six frames of work.

Cook's home run in the second inning, a towering drive to left field, put the Intimidators up, 1-0. The Bombers rallied to tie the game with a run in the third as Chuck Jeroloman scored on a ground out by Andrew Pinckney. Cook again homered to left field in the fouth to put Kannapolis up, 2-1.

The Intimidators closed out the scoring with two runs in the fifth inning, aided in part by a Bombers error. Third baseman Jose DeLosSantos highlighted the rally with an RBI single.

Greenville outhit Kannapolis, 8-6, including a 3-for-4 performance by catcher John Otness. Otness, who now has a 15-game hit streak, raised his South Atlantic League batting average to .395.

The clubs meet in game three of the four-game series on Monday at 7:05pm. Righthanders Matt Goodson (2-3) for Greenville and Adam Russell (2-3) for Kannapolis will pitch.

NOTES: Bombers 2b TONY GRANADILLO went 2-for-4, extending his hit streak to 9 games......Greenville Rhp RYAN SCHROYER fired three shutout innings in relief of Blackley......the Bombers have lost 2 of their last 3 games following winning 3 in a row......Monday is MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT at the ballpark.
