Macon Mayhem News Release
A strong rally by the Macon Mayhem came up short Saturday night, as the Mayhem lost 3-2 to the Peoria Rivermen at the Peoria Civic Center.
Peoria got out to a strong start as Tim Hall, Chris Wilson, and Terrence Wallin all scored in the first period for a 3-0 lead. Hall's goal was shorthanded, and Wallin's came on the power play.
The Mayhem however didn't roll over, and responded with perhaps one of its strongest periods of the season, in the second period. Macon held Peoria to just two shots on the goal in the period, the fewest the Mayhem has given up in a period this season. Meanwhile, Macon managed 13 shots on goal. The 11 shot edge is also the widest margin in shots on goal the Mayhem has enjoyed this year.
One of those 13 shots came from Michael Montagna on the power play and got the Mayhem on the scoreboard at the 14:35 mark of the second period, to reduce Peoria's lead to 3-1.
Macon's comeback attempt continued in the third period as Michael Wills scored his second goal of the season, an unassisted goal at the 5:30 mark. Macon had a chance with power play in the final 2:54 but couldn't get the equalizer.
Peoria won both games of the weekend set to raise its record to 8-3-1. The Mayhem is now 3-6-3 and will next play at Pensacola on Friday. The next home game for the Mayhem is Friday December 11 against the Fayetteville FireAntz.
