Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (7-4-1) fell 4-3 to the Fayetteville FireAntz (7-2-0) on Saturday night in a seesaw battle that saw seven goals from seven different goal scorers.

Fayetteville's Cole Wilson got things going on Saturday night when he cashed in with a power play goal just 3:39 into the game while the Ice Flyers' Joe Caveney was in the box for boarding. The FireAntz held on to the 1-0 lead for most of the period before Pensacola scored a power play goal of their own when Joey Holka netted his fifth goal of the season with two minutes remaining in the period. Adam Pawlick and Jeremy Gates had the assists on the tying goal.

It didn't take long into the second period for the Ice Flyers to obtain their first lead of the game as Stephen Buco scored his third goal of the season, and first as an Ice Flyer, to put Pensacola up 2-1 just 1:33 into the second. Junior Harris and Gates assisted on the goal. About four and a half minutes later, the game was tied again as Fayetteville's Brad Plumton was able to beat Pensacola's Matt Zenzola.

The pattern of goals early in the period continued as Pensacola regained the lead thanks to a blast by Gates on the power play just 38 seconds into the third. Buco and Mike Krieg had the helpers. Fayetteville tied it up about seven minutes later when Zac Frischmon scored his second goal of the season. The pressure shifted back to Pensacola when the Antz's Josh McQuade netted a power play goal with 6:14 remaining in regulation. The Ice Flyers pulled Zenzola in favor of an extra attacker and almost cashed in but a tying goal with 13.2 remaining was waved off due to a crease violation.

Zenzola managed to stop 30 of the 34 shots that came his way and his record now stands at 7-2-1. Gates was named the game's third star for his one goal and two assists performance.

The Ice Flyers will return to the Hangar this weekend for $5 Weekend. On Friday night, the Macon Mayhem will visit the Pensacola Bay Center for the first time ever and these same Fayetteville FireAntz will visit Pensacola for the first time this season on Saturday night. Both games are scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
