Rivermen Top Mayhem 3-2 Saturday Night

PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Rivermen scored three goals in the first period and held on to beat the Macon Mayhem 3-2 Saturday night. The win, Peoria's third in a row, improves the Rivermen to 8-3-1 with a three-game road trip next week, including two games at league-leading Mississippi.

The Rivermen started the scoring with a shorthanded tally at 9:03 of the first period when Timmy Hall took the puck coast-to-coast and beat Macon goalie David Jacobson for the 1-0 lead. Peoria doubled their lead when Chris Wilson scored his second goal in as many games with Peoria at the 15:37 mark of the first from Dan Bremner and Mike Donnellan with both teams at full strength. Peoria made it a three-goal lead at 19:03 of the first with a powerplay tally from Terrence Wallin after he buried a doorstep feed from Adam Stuart to make it 3-0.

The Mayhem got on the board at the 14:35 mark of the second period when Michael Montagna beat Rivermen goaltender Kyle Rank on the powerplay for the 3-1 score. Macon added another tally unassisted at 5:20 of the third period when an errant pass from the stick of Wallin was taken in the slot and buried by Michael Wills for the 3-2 score. The Rivermen were shorthanded for two minutes with 2:54 left in the game but killed the penalty and survived an extra Macon attacker to hold on for a 3-2 victory.

Kyle Rank stopped 30 of 32 shots in goal for Peoria, winning his third straight game in goal. Rank is now 6-2-1 for the season and 6-0-1 since a November 3 loss in Mississippi.
