PEARL, MS - The top two teams in the Southern League South Division met for the first time on Monday night at Trustmark Park and the first-place Pensacola Blue Wahoos (21-10) came away with a 6-3 victory over the Mississippi Braves (15-14). The loss stopped Mississippi's winning streak at five games.

Patrick Weigel made his sixth start on Monday night and worked 3.0 innings for the second straight outing, continuing his return from Tommy John Surgery. Weigel surrendered a run in the third inning on a two-out RBI triple from Twins No. 8 prospect Alex Kirillof. Weigel allowed the lone run on three hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

The M-Braves threatened during the first three innings, but double plays erased threats in two of those frames. Tyler Neslony singled to begin the fourth and Andy Wilkins followed with a walk. Pensacola starter Sean Poppen retired the next two batters, but Luis Valenzuela struck for a two-run single and Mississippi went ahead 2-1.

Jeremy Walker (L, 1-3) took over for Weigel again on Monday and delivered 3.0 scoreless innings before running into trouble in the seventh. The first three Blue Wahoos reached against Walker, including a two-run double from Tanner English, giving Pensacola back the lead at 3-2. Jordan Gore and Kirillof added RBI singles and then rehabbing Twins third baseman Miguel Sano reached on an error, letting the fifth run of the inning cross the plate. Sano finished his third rehab game for the Blue Wahoos 0-for-5, with a pair of strikeouts. Pensacola led 6-2 as the fans stretched at Trustmark Park.

Mississippi got one run back in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs. Daniel Lockhart led off with a single and then two batters later, Neslony ripped a triple down the right field line scoring Lockhart to make it 6-3.

Justin Kelly made his 2019 M-Braves debut and worked 2.0 shutout innings with a walk and a strikeout. Walker ended up with 4.0 innings and five runs allowed, but only three were earned on six hits. The Advance, North Carolina native struck out three and walked one. Pensacola reliever Jeff Ames (W, 1-1) picked up the win and Cody Stashak (S, 1) was credited with a save after 2.1 innings of relief.
