LAST GAME: The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, succumbed to the strong arms of Birmingham's Kyle Kubat and Connor Walsh on Monday, falling 2-0 at The Ballpark at Jackson. Jackson (15-15) was shut out for only the second time in 2019, with Birmingham (12-19) taking the series-opening victory despite their failure to record an extra-base hit. TODAY'S PITCHING MATCHUP: Generals right-hander Bo Takahashi is in need of a positive outing. He's allowed 12 earned runs over his last 11 1/3 IP (9.52 ERA), failing to survive beyond the fourth inning in the last three weeks. In contrast to last season's mild successes, Takahashi has struggled when ahead in the count (6.00 ERA) and with one or two outs in the inning (8.56 ERA). Meanwhile, Birmingham's Jimmy Lambert has posted quality starts in four of his last five outings, ranking among the top 10 in the league in strikeouts (39) and innings pitched (33 2/3). Jackson put up 3 runs on Lambert on April 21, but Takahashi gave up five runs that day to the Barons during an Easter Sunday win for Birmingham, 10-4.

WALK, OR WALK THE PLANK: Jackson didn't draw a walk in their May 6 loss to Birmingham until the ninth inning, and only two of the Generals' 31 plate appearances featured a full-count pitch. The Generals are 12-5 this season when walking at least four times, but they're 3-10 when they earn fewer than four bases on balls. Jackson's 97 drawn walks ranks ninth of ten teams in the Southern League this season through 30 games (May 6th).
