Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League today signed left wing Andrew McPherson to a one-year, two-way (AHL/ECHL) contract. The announcement was made by Penguins' President Jeff Barrett.

McPherson, 23, recorded 20 points (6+14) and 44 penalty minutes in 35 games last season with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). As a senior, he was ranked among the team leaders in penalty minutes (tied for first), assists (tied for fifth) and points (seventh).

In four seasons with the Engineers, McPherson recorded 56 points (26+30) and 112 penalty minutes in 132 games.

The 6'2" and 185-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the ninth round (261st overall) of the 1999 Entry Draft.

He played in one NHL preseason game with Pittsburgh this season and was scoreless with two penalty minutes against New Jersey on September 20. McPherson was assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins training camp on Sept. 22.

He did not play in either of the two Penguins' preseason games over the weekend because of a knee injury. McPherson suffered the injury during practice last Wednesday. He will have surgery tomorrow morning to repair a lateral meniscal tear in his left knee and is expected to be out 4-5 weeks.
