
Flames Add Five to Training Camp Roster

Saint John, NB â The Saint John Flames announced today the addition of defenceman Steve Montador, center Matthew Lombardi and left-wingers Robert Dome, Oleg Saprykin and Martin Sonnenberg to the Club's training camp roster. All five players were recently released from the Calgary Flames training camp.
Dome, 23, spent last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins appearing in 39 games recording 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists) and 53 penalty minutes. Signed by Calgary during the off-season, the 6'0", 205 native of Skalica, Slovakia has appeared in 52 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins recording 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists) and 12 penalty minutes and in 174 career AHL games with the Syracuse Crunch and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins recording 136 points (60 goals, 76 assists) and 283 penalty minutes. Dome was the Pittsburgh Penguins first round selection, 17th overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Lombardi, 20, led the Victoriaville Tigres to the 2002 President's Trophy, the QMJHL Championship. The 5'11", 191 lb native of Montreal, Quebec led the Tigres in goals, 57, and total points, 130 during the regular season and ranked second overall in the League. In 250 regular season games as a junior with Victoriaville, he posted 257 career points (109 goals, 148 assists) and 172 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by the Edmonton in the 7th round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, he opted to re-enter the NHL Draft in 2002 where he was selected in the 3rd round, 90th overall, by the Calgary Flames.
Montador, 22, returns for his third full season with Saint John. A graduate of the OHL, the 6'0", 200 lb native of Lakefield, Ontario has appeared in 125 regular season contests with Saint John over the last two seasons recording 32 points (10 goals, 22 assists) and 202 penalty minutes. Montador made his NHL debut with the Calgary Flames last season recording his first career NHL goal and 2 assists for 3 points and 26 penalty minutes in 11 games.
Saprykin, 21, returns for his second full season with the Saint John Flames. In 52 games with Saint John last season, Saprykin recorded 24 points (5 goals, 19 assists) and 53 penalty minutes. The 6'1", 185 lb native of Moscow, Russia, has appeared in 66 career NHL games recording 24 points (9 goals, 15 assists) and 45 penalty minutes. A graduate of the WHL, Saprykin appeared in 114 games as a junior with the Seattle Thunderbirds recording 159 points (77 goals, 82 assists) and 196 penalty minutes. Saprykin was Calgary's first round selection, 11th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Sonnenberg, 24, skated last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins recording 50 points (20 goals, 30 assists) and 127 penalty minutes. The 2002-03 season will mark his fifth campaign in the American Hockey League. Signed by Calgary in the off-season, the 6'0", 185 lb native of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, has appeared in 58 career NHL games recording 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) and 19 penalty minutes and in 250 career AHL games recording 160 points (70 goals, 90 assists) and 356 penalty minutes. A graduate of the WHL, Sonnenberg appeared in 202 junior career games with the Saskatoon Blades recording 171 points (86 goals, 85 assists) and 190 penalty minutes. Sonnenberg was a member of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2000-01 team that was defeated by the Saint John Flames in the 2001 Calder Cup Final.
All on-ice training camp workouts through to October 4 will be open to the general public.
