Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Mark Parrish scored two crucial goals, including the overtime game-winner-to lead the Binghamton Senators to a 5-4 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Bryan Lerg notched his team-leading fourth goal of the season to extend his scoring streak to three games.
Trying to hold on to a 3-2 lead going into the third period, the Penguins saw Parrish pull the Senators even for the first time in the game with a snap shot over the shoulder of Brad Thiessen at the 7:18 mark .
Four minutes later, Kaspars Daugavins put Binghamton ahead when he walked around the defenseman and lifted the puck into the top of the net to make it 4-3.
Once again it was Lerg provided timely scoring for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Paul Thompson found him with a perfect backhand pass to the front of the net that Lerg tapped in with 7:12 left in regulation.
The two teams would take it to overtime where Parrish accepted a pass on the right wing from Jim O'Brien and sneaked a wrister inside the far post., giving Binghamton its first win of the season.
The Penguins controlled the first period from the drop of the first puck and broke through at 5:49 on Brandon DeFazio's first of the season - a wrist shot from the right circle that beat a screened Robin Lehner.
Eric Tangradi allowed Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to own a 2-0 lead after one period when he established position in the crease and knocked in his own rebound with 1:48 remaining. The Penguins completed the first 20 minutes with a 7-1 shot advantage.
Binghamton didn't give Wilkes-Barre/Scranton much time enjoy their lead as Derek Grant scored on a breakaway to cut the lead in half just 16 seconds into the middle period.
Geoff Walker would quickly put the Penguins back up by two with a power play goal, but Mike Hoffman had an even faster response for the Senators as he made the score 3-2 a mere 29 seconds later.
Penguins' goalie Thiessen turned away 19-of-25 shots. Lehner picked up 25 saves for the Senators
