Wolves Drop a 3-2 Shootout Decision in Home Opener

ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves and Milwaukee Admirals battled into a shootout Saturday night, with the Admirals earning a 3-2 Amtrak Rivalry shootout win before a crowd of 11,321 in the Wolves home opener at the Allstate Arena.
After trading goals for 40 minutes, neither team could dent the net in the third period or overtime. In the shootout, the Wolves converted two of their four attempts while Milwaukee scored on four of its five attempts to earn the extra point.
"We were upset about last night's game and tonight qualifies as a big step forward for us," said Wolves head coach Craig MacTavish. "We played a good, strong game, but we couldn't convert our opportunities."
Milwaukee (3-0-0-0) opened the scoring at the 11:30 mark of the first period when center Kyle Wilson found himself all alone in the slot and wristed a shot past Wolves goaltender Eddie Lack on the stick-side.
Chicago (0-2-0-2) evened the score when Milwaukee goaltender Jeremy Smith misplayed the puck behind his own net and left wing Matt Clackson pounced on the loose puck in the crease and banged it into the empty net at 16:29 of the opening frame.
The Admirals regained the lead with 1:20 remaining in the first frame. Center Chris Mueller stripped a Wolves defender in the far circle and snapped a shot over Lack's glove.
Lack (0-1-2) kicked out 21 of 23 shots in regulation and overtime and one of five attempts in the shootout.
The Wolves knotted the score at two when right wing Victor Oreskovich skated into the Admirals zone and sent a shot from the top of the near circle that deflected off a Milwaukee defender's leg and floated past Smith 4:54 into the second period.
Smith (3-0-0) posted 22 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped two of four shootout attempts.
The Wolves return to action in an Illinois Lottery Cup matchup against the Rockford IceHogs at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Allstate Arena.
