Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Chicago, IL--Juuso Puustinen scored the game-winning goal in a shootout Saturday at Allstate Arena to spoil the Chicago Wolves home opener and give the Admirals a 3-2 win.
Puustinen, Milwaukee's fifth and final shooter, fired a shot past the glove of Wolves goalie Eddie Lack for the winner. Michael Latta, Ryan Thang and Kyle Wilson also scored in the shootout for the Admirals.
Milwaukee has won its first three games to start the season for the first time since 2004-05. That team won its first three before losing in overtime. The 2004-05 team went 8-0-2 before its first regulation loss that year. The Admirals have also recorded points in 18 straight road games. The last loss in regulation for the Admirals occurred Jan. 13 at Manitoba (3-0). Milwaukee is 12-0-4-2 on the road since that game.
Milwaukee struck first when Wilson scored his first goal as an Admiral. Milwaukee forced an offensive zone turnover that came to defenseman Victor Bartley at the blue line. Wilson was behind the defenders in the slot and received a pass from Bartley. Wilson's shot went into the net under the right arm of Wolves goalie Eddie Lack at 11:30 of the first period.
Chicago tied the game when Admirals goalie Jeremy Smith misplayed a puck behind his net. The puck bounced into the slot and ended up in the back of the empty net courtesy of Chicago's Matt Clackson at 16:29 of the first period.
The Admirals reclaimed the lead with 1:20 remaining in the first when Chris Mueller intercepted a pass by Chicago defenseman Yann Sauve. Mueller skated to the top of the left circle and fired a wristshot past the glove of Lack for his second goalie of the season.
The Wolves tied the game when Victor Oreskovich scored his first of the season on a wrist shot from the right wing as he crossed the Admirals blue line. The puck deflected off an Admirals defender past Smith at 4:54 of the second period to knot the game at two.
The Admirals travel west to face the Abbotsford Heat Friday and Saturday. Milwaukee's next home game is Saturday, October 30th at 7:00 pm against Grand Rapids with a free post-game concert from country music star Craig Morgan.
