Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

Albany, NY - The Penguins' top line of Guillaume Lefebvre, Jonathan Filewich and Maxime Talbot combined for eight points (3+5), and Andy Chiodo made 22 saves to lead the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 5-1 win Wednesday night against the Albany River Rats at the Pepsi Arena.

The shutout was the first of the season for Chiodo, and the seventh of his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton career.

With the win, the Penguins upped their record to 37-10-3-2 on the season, and regained the overall lead in the American Hockey League standings with 79 points, one better than the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The win was the second in less than a week against the River Rats (18-31-2-2), as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton posted a 2-1 win at home last Saturday.

Maxime Talbot gave the Pens the lead, picking up a loose puck off a Jonathan Filewich wraparound shot and putting it behind Frank Doyle at the 13:37 mark of the first.

Filewich knocked home a Talbot pass at the top of the crease to make it 2-0 early in the second period, shortly after Dan McGillis was given a five minute major for high sticking on Paul Bissonnette.. The tally was the 15th of the season for the Wilkes-Barre rookie.

Erik Christensen scored his 15th of the AHL campaign midway through the period, taking a centering pass from Matt Hussey and one-timing home a shot from the top of the goal crease.

Guillaume Lefebvre made it 4-0 with a power play goal at the 10:00 minute mark of the third period to ice the game.

Ahren Nittel spoiled Chiodo's shutout bid 48 seconds later, but Stephen Dixon was quick to respond, picking up a loose puck off of Doyle's glove and shooting into a virtually empty net for his eighth goal of the season.

Chiodo recorded his third win of the AHL campaign, and his second against the River Rats.

NOTES: Terry Virtue played his first game with the Penguins after signing a 25-game professional tryout contract on Tuesday. The game was the 850th in the AHL for the veteran defenseman, who also happens to be the active leader in games played among AHL skaters...Penguins scratches were Andy Schneider, Chris Kelleher, Drew Fata and Cam Paddock.
