
Penguins Announce End of Season Award Winners

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins held their annual team awards in ceremonies tonight prior to their game with the Philadelphia Phantoms. The following trophies were awarded:
MEDIA AWARD:
This award is presented to the player who has been the most courteous and cooperative during the season, as voted on by local sports media. The award was presented tonight by Caroline McCarthy from the Times Leader.
Winner: Martin Sonnenberg
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD:
This award is given to the player who is most cooperative in the community and generous with his time. The award was presented tonight by Marlene Hogrebe from Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Blue Shield.
Winner: Rob Scuderi
STAR OF THE YEAR:
This award is presented to the player that has recorded the most points as one of the Weis/Mr. Z's Three Stars of the game during the 2001-02 season. The award was presented tonight by Wayne Bailey from Weis/Mr. Z's Markets.
Winner: Tom Kostopoulos
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER:
This award is presented to the player that showed the most improvement throughout the season. The award was presented tonight by Dr.'s William J. Krywicki and David J. Kolessar from the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Human Motion Institute.
Winner: Sebastien Caron
MOST VALUABLE DEFENSEMAN:
This award is presented to the Penguins' most consistent defensive player. The award was presented tonight by Ken Bailey from Parente Technology.
Winner: Brendan Buckley
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR:
This award is presented to the Penguins' rookie who was the most outstanding during his first season of professional hockey. The award was presented tonight by Tom Steve from Unigraphics Color Corporation & Ideaworks Marketing & Design.
Winner: Shane Endicott
FAN FAVORITE:
This award was voted for by the fans on a website poll at www.wbspenguins.com. The award was presented tonight by Bill Richardson from Dodge.
Winner: Tom Kostopoulos
PENGUIN AWARD:
This award is given to the player that best defines Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey. The award was presented tonight by John McCarthy from McCarthy Tire.

AHL MAN OF THE YEAR:
The HG Insurance/K&K Insurance/ AHL Man of the Year Award is given to the player who shows an outstanding commitment to the community and charitable organizations throughout the season. The award was presented tonight by Tom Blaskiewicz from the PA Lottery.
Winner: John Jakopin
LEADING SCORER:
This award is given to the player that leads the team in points at the end of the season. The award was presented tonight by Bill Brennan and Bill Brennan, IV from Shamrock Communications.
Winners: Tom Kostopoulos and Martin Sonnenberg
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD:
This award was voted on by the Penguins' Coaching Staff and Media Relations Department of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The award was presented tonight by team President Jeff Barrett.

FAN OF THE YEAR:
This award is presented to one of our most dedicated and supportive fans and is voted on by the Penguins' Ticketing Staff. The award was presented tonight by team President Jeff Barrett.
