Flames Hand Out Year-End Hardware

SAINT JOHN, NB - Flames' centre Blair Betts and defenceman Micki DuPont were the big winners tonight when the Saint John Flames handed out their annual player awards prior to this evening's contest at Harbour Station.

Betts, a second year pro, posted a team leading 49 points (20 goals, 29 assists) in 67 games to capture the Irving Oil Top Scorer Award. He was also recognized for his contributions by his teammates who voted him this season's Delta Brunswick Most Valuable Player.

DuPont was the other dual award winner on the night. He was awarded the NBTel Top Defenseman Award, as voted by his teammates, and the Ignitor's Booster Club Award of Excellence.

The other award recipients included Garett Bembridge, voted as the Baxter Foods Rookie of the Year, Jason Morgan, voted as the team's Unsung Hero, Rick Mrozik, winner of the Bank of Nova Scotia Plus/Minus Award and Mike Martin, recipient of the City of Saint John Community Service Award.

Kay Whitmore earned the Labatt Blue Player of the Year Award as the player who received the most three star selections over the course of the season.

Representatives from the Flames' corporate partners were on hand for the pre-game ceremonies to present the award winners with their trophies and cheques for $500 for their accomplishments.
