Pensacola Pelicans News Release

(Macon, GA) --- The Pensacola Pelicans rallied from a four-run deficit before being forced to go to extra innings to beat the Macon Peaches 10-8 in 10 innings Saturday night.

Pensacola took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Warren Rivell that scored Nelson Samboy, who went 4-for-5 and drove in four. Samboy added a two-run double in the fourth to score Jeremy Brostrom and Nick Mockabee before the Peaches exploded for six runs in the fifth.

Patrick Sexton pitched five innings and struck out a season-high eight, but gave up seven unearned runs. He didn't walk a batter.

Pensacola pulled within three at 7-4 in the sixth when Erick Donaldson singled to score Mockabee, who also singled. Pensacola's top three batters in the lineup – Mockabee, Samboy and Donaldson – had nine hits in the win.

Two of those nine came in Pensacola's four run eighth in the form of back-to-back homers by Mockabee and Samboy. Mockabee's was a three-run shot that also scored Kevin Steele and Brostrom, while Samboy's was a solo shot.

The Peaches, down to their final strike in the ninth, tied it on a solo homer by Evan Cherry off Jimmy Gregg (3-1). But the Pelicans, with the help of a throwing error, scored two in the top of the 10th. Mark Ford singled and scored on the error after Mockabee beat out an infield hit. Donaldson then hit into a fielder's choice to score Mockabee.

Gregg had to battle the Peaches hitter, as well as Mother Nature in the bottom of the 10th. After getting the first two batters out, the skies opened and a rainstorm pounded Macon. Gregg walked two batters before getting a strikeout to end it.

Pensacola plays Macon at 3 p.m. in the series finale before returning home for five games in three days against the Montgomery Wings to close out the regular season.
