Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

LAST NIGHT ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans squeaked past the Frederick Keys 2-1 Monday in a game that lasted only two hours and seven minute, the team's quickest nine-inning game of the season. Nick Martinez worked eight innings of one-run baseball to earn his fifth win.

PLAYOFFS ... Winston-Salem squandered a five-run lead Monday and fell to the Lynchburg Hillcats 10-9. The Pelicans enter play a game up in the division. The Pelicans have seven scheduled games left which would bring them to 69 first half games. The Dash have six remaining games and would play 70 first half games. If somehow the Pelicans and Dash end up with the same winning percentage, the Pelicans would own the head-to-head having won 4-of-6 head-to-head matchups.

CRAZY EIGHTS ... Prior to yesterday's eight-inning effort from Nick Martinez, the right-hander had never worked longer than six innings in a game. Martinez joins Jerad Eickhoff as the only two Pelicans pitchers who have worked that deep.

HIM AGAIN ... Eduardo Rodriguez carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Pelicans on May 1st when the two teams hooked up at Harry Grove Stadium. Luis Sardinas led off the inning with a single to break up the no-no. The Keys beat the Pelicans 3-1 and Rodriguez got the win to go along with six strikeouts.

UP NEXT ... Tonight the first 1,000 fans will receive a Jeff Francoeur poster presented by Sheriar Press and 100.3 The Team. Craft Beers will also sell for $2. The Pelicans will also be debuting their brand new homemade beer from Hops Heaven. Tomorrow is a Wiener Wednesday presented by Hebrew National - hot dogs will sell for $1 all game long.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.

ON THE AIR ... All 140 Myrtle Beach Pelicans games in 2013 can be heard on Fox Sports Radio on the Grand Strand (AM 1050 and FM 101.9). Video for all 70 home games is available online at www.milb.tv.
