Frederick Keys News Release
For a fourth time in five games on its current road trip, the Keys dropped a one-run game, falling to Myrtle Beach 5-4 on Tuesday night. The loss dropped Frederick four games back of Potomac with six games to play. The Keys final five games will be against the Nationals at Harry Grove Stadium.
The Keys had won seven games in a row with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on the hill but Rodriguez labored. He allowed five runs on 11 hits in five innings. Only two of the five runs were earned.
Trailing 5-2 in the sixth inning the Keys battled back. With one down C Allan de San Miguel was hit by an 0-2 fastball to start the rally. OF Brenden Webb walked and SS Sammie Starr singled to load the bases. RF Johnny Ruettiger followed with a two-RBI single to right field. Starr raced all the way to third base. Trailing 5-4 the Keys could not close the rally. OF Delvi Cid popped out in foul ground to the catcher and 2B Jerome Pena grounded out sharply to first base to end the threat.
In the eighth inning, de San Miguel and Webb set the table with a single and a walk to start the frame. Starr could not get a bunt down and struck out looking. Ruettiger and Cid then followed with fly outs to end the threat. The Keys went down in order in the ninth inning.
Relievers Gene Escat and Matt Price worked a combined three scoreless innings to keep the Keys on the doorstep.
Potomac split a doubleheader in Carolina and Lynchburg was defeated. The Keys and Lynchburg are each four games back with six to play. Wilmington was eliminated this evening with its loss at Salem.
Needing a win before the big series with Potomac, Zach Petersime takes the mound Wednesday evening in the series finale at Myrtle Beach. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 12th with coverage beginning 30-minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
Frederick returns Thursday, June 13th for a five-game series in four days against Potomac. Peanut Free Night kicks it all off on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks follow Friday and Saturday's games.
Tickets can be purchased for all Keys home games at 301-815-9939 during regular business hours or online at frederickkeys.com anytime.
