Salem RidgeYaks News Release

Nine Times, Mrs. Bueller: The first game of Salem's final homestand of the half served as the Sox' biggest win of the year. Salem scored nine runs on nine hits (while also leaving nine men on base) in a 9-0 rout over the Wilmington Blue Rocks, who have now lost four straight to begin their road trip. Salem's eight-run first was its biggest inning of the season, two runs better than Salem's second inning on April 23 when Keury De La Cruz' slam highlighted a six-run frame against the Blue Rocks. After dropping to 27-34 on the season following the first game against Lynchburg on Sunday, the Sox are in a position where they need to win nine straight games to finish the half with an above .500 record.

Life Moves Pretty Fast: Lately, so do Henry Ramos fly balls. Salem's center-fielder launched his fourth home run in his last seven games in the first frame on Monday, giving him seven homers on the year. Last night's blast was his first round-tripper that was not a solo shot; rather it was a three-run missile that gave the Red Sox a 6-0 lead. Impressively, the switch-hitter has hit two homers from each side of the plate in his last seven games. In his last nine games, Ramos has gone 11-for-27 (.407) with four homers, two doubles, and nine RBI. He started the year 3-for-33, but has hit .293 since.

Seen Anything Good Today?: If you've watched Henry Owens pitch, you absolutely have. Since a bumpy outing in Frederick on May 26, the tall lefthander has permitted just seven hits over 16 innings in his last three starts. He's dealt ten straight scoreless innings and has surrendered just one run in his last 16 frames, shrinking his season ERA to 2.95, ninth best in the league. His 73 strikeouts are second in the league, as is his opponent's batting average (.193). The Red Sox have three shutouts this year, and Owens has started two of them.

The Doubles King of Salem: Dominican outfielder Keury De La Cruz continues to drive the ball to the gaps at a better rate than anyone in the league. He collected his 22nd double of the season on Monday night, giving him three more than the second-best doubles deliverer in the circuit. De La Cruz has four doubles in his last six games and has hit in 10 straight overall, a stretch in which he's batting .444 (16-for-36) with five doubles, one triple, and 12 RBI. Only seven players in all of minor league baseball have more doubles than De La Cruz for the season.

Hey Batta Batta Batta SUH-WING Batta!: As a team, Salem is hitting .289 so far in June, by far its best batting average for any month this season. The Sox hit .236 in April and .242 in May, and their .289 clip in June is #1 in the circuit so far. Henry Ramos is hitting .394 in June, while Keury De La Cruz is batting .356 this month.

We Oughta Do This Again!: With eight runs before an out was recorded on Monday, but the Salem Sox extended their streak to 82 straight games with at least one run. The Sox have not been shutout since August 12, 2012 at Wilmington. Salem is the only team in the CL to score at least one in every game so far in 2013.
