Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Game one of the three-game series between the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Potomac Nationals was suspended due to a deluge of rain along the Grand Strand on Monday night. After a rain delay of 45 minutes the game got underway, only to have another storm wash the series opener away. The Pelicans will be up 4-0 with no outs and runners at the corners in the bottom of the 2nd inning when play resumes on Tuesday night at 5 pm in game one of a doubleheader. The Birds and Nats will complete the rest of the regularly scheduled nine-inning game before playing a seven-game nightcap. Gates will open at 4 pm to the general public.

In the bottom of the 1st inning the Pelicans jumped out to a 4-0 advantage thanks to a sacrifice fly RBI to centerfield from 3B Van Pope, and a three-run home run launched by DH Mark Jurich. The three-run blast by Jurich was his 6th of the season and his 5th in the month of July.

An inning later, in the bottom of the 2nd, C Clint Sammons roped a double down the left field line and moved to third on a single to right field from LF Greg Creek. With Sammons and Creek at third the heavy rains forced the suspension of play.

Fans with tickets to Monday night's game can redeem their tickets for any future Pelicans regular season home game in 2006.

On Tuesday night the Pelicans take on the Potomac Nationals at 5 pm in game one of a doubleheader. For tickets please call 843-918-6000 or purchase tickets online at myrtlebeachpelicans.com.
