Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - At a press conference in mid-May, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (A/Atlanta Braves) proudly announced that the 2008 California-Carolina League All-Star Game would be coming to the Grand Strand. On Sunday evening, the Pelicans unveiled the official logo for the mid-summer classic, which will be played on June 24, 2008 at BB&T Coastal Field.
"First of all, we are beyond excited to bring the All-Star Game here to Myrtle Beach," said Pelicans President & Managing Partner Chuck Greenberg. "The All-Star logo certainly ties in the fun beach feel of this dynamic community with our new logo, which is one of the freshest and most vibrant in professional sports."
The All-Star game logo features a sparkling star outlined with the same dock rope prominently featured in the Pelicans' primary logo. A large Palmetto tree, the state tree of South Carolina, emerges out of the bottom right corner of the star, giving the logo a distinct local appeal. The colors used in the logo derive from the Pelicans current logo, featuring Pelicans Blue, Midnight Blue, and Sun Gold, with a touch of white.
"We are thrilled with the overall look of the All-Star Game logo, which we know will be well received by our great fans as well as throughout Minor League Baseball," said Pelicans General Manager North Johnson. "The logo conveys the charm of the community, the vibrancy of the Pelicans, and the once-in-a-lifetime nature of the All-Star Game events."
A full schedule of exciting, fan-friendly events will surround the All-Star Game, which is currently being prepared by the Pelicans front office staff and will be announced in the coming weeks.
The format for the All-Star Game features the best players from the Carolina League against the top players in the California League. The eight-team Carolina League roster will be loaded with All-Stars from the Pelicans, Frederick Keys (Baltimore), Lynchburg Hillcats (Pittsburgh), Kinston Indians (Cleveland), Potomac Nationals (Washington), Salem Avalanche (Houston), Wilmington Blue Rocks (Kansas City), and Winston-Salem Warthogs (Chicago White Sox). The ten-team California League will counter with stars from the San Jose Giants (San Francisco), Visalia Oaks (Arizona), Modesto Nuts (Colorado), Stockton Ports (Oakland), Bakersfield Blaze (Texas), Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Los Angeles Angels), Inland Empire 66ers (Los Angeles Dodgers), Lancaster JetHawks (Arizona), Lake Elsinore Storm (San Diego), and High Desert Mavericks (Seattle).
On Monday, September 3, the Pelicans will play their final game of the 2007 season against the Kinston Indians at 7:05 p.m. The Pelicans are slated to send southpaw Carlos Sencion (2-1, 2.62 ERA) to the mound against Kinston right-hander Steven Wright (2-2, 7.74 ERA).
