Kinston Indians News Release

The K-Tribe won their fifth game in a row with a 3-2 victory at Myrtle Beach on Sunday. Kinston (86-52) scored the winning run on an error by Myrtle Beach shortstop Michael Fisher in the top of the eighth inning. With two outs and the score tied at two, Fisher threw low to first base on a ground ball off the bat of Jerad Head; allowing Beau Mills to score from second base. A Myrtle Beach mishap also let Kinston tie the game in the sixth inning, when Wes Hodges scored from third base on a wild pitch; also with two outs in the inning. The K-Tribe plated their first run of the game in the fifth inning with a solo home run by Kinston newcomer Nick Weglarz. Weglarz was just called up from Low A Lake County on Saturday, hitting a long ball in his Carolina League debut. A piece of history was made early in the game when Kinston's Jerad Head was hit by a pitch by Myrtle Beach pitcher Dustin Evans. Head is now tied with Kinston's Jeff Depippo for the franchise lead in getting plunked. Both Depippo and Head are tied with 17 bean balls. Depippo set the mark in 1999.

Kinston reliever Matt Meyer (3-4) picked up the win from the bullpen, throwing 2 1/3 innings of one hit ball. Meyer did not allow a run, while striking out four. Neil Wagner pitched a perfect eighth inning and Scott Roehl picked up his Carolina League leading 24th save of the season with a one hit ninth. Sung-Wei Tseng started the game for Kinston, giving up two earned runs through 4 2/3 innings. Brett Butts (0-1) took the loss for Myrtle Beach.

Kinston returns to Myrtle Beach for the final regular season game of 2007 Monday at 7:05 pm. Steven Wright gets the start for Kinston. The K-Tribe will have an off day on Tuesday, and then return to Kinston for game one of the Southern Division Playoffs on Wednesday at 7pm.
