Pelicans Take Second Straight Series

Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
WILMINGTON, DE - It took the Myrtle Beach Pelicans over six weeks to claim their first series victory of the 2009 season. Now, the Pelicans are getting to know the feeling.
Myrtle Beach rode a three-run fourth inning to a 3-1 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the final game of a three-game series. After the two teams combined to put exactly one man on the basepaths through the first three innings, the Pelicans put together their only offensive inning of the day in the fourth. Chad Lundahl led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a Freddie Freeman walk. Donell Linares's RBI single put runners on the corners and scored Lundahl, getting the Pelicans on the board with a 1-0 lead. Cody Johnson followed that up with an RBI double plating Freeman and moving Linares to third. Benji Johnson reached on a fielder's choice that retired Cody Johnson and scored Linares, and Myrtle Beach would need no more.
Pelicans starter Erik Cordier (2-2) tossed six and a third innings of five-hit ball, and when he ran into his first, and only, blip of the day, the Birds' bullpen was there to pick him up. Clint Robinson led off the seventh with a solo home run, his sixth of the season, but Cordier buckled down to K Jamar Walton behind him before turning the game over to the Myrtle Beach relief corps. Eric Barrett and Benino Pruneda combined to throw two and two-thirds innings of one-hit ball with Pruneda (S, 2) closing things out in the ninth by working around a two-out Anthony Seratelli walk.
The Pelicans only mustered one more hit off Blue Rocks starter Danny Duffy (5-2) over the lefty's seven innings but still handed him just his second loss of the year. Myrtle Beach started the 2009 season with no series victories in its first 14 sets of the year but has now taken two in a row with their victory in Sunday's rubber match with the Blue Rocks.
Myrtle Beach continues its ten-game road trip with three games at Winston-Salem starting Monday night. Following their visit to the Dash, the Pelicans will head to Potomac for four. The Birds return home on June 9 for a three-game set with the Kinston Indians. Tickets are available by calling the Pelicans box office at (843)918-6000 or by visiting the Tickets page at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com
