 Potomac Nationals

OF Valdez Placed on DL

Potomac Nationals News Release

LYNCHBURG, Va- The Potomac Nationals have announced that outfielder Jesus Valdez has been placed on the 7-day disabled list due to a hamstring strain suffered May 24 at Pfitzner Stadium.

On that Sunday game against Lynchburg at the Pfitz, Valdez, getting his first start from the number three spot in the order, roped a double off the centerfield wall but pulled up lame as he rounded second base. He was helped off the field and had yet to participate in a game since that day.

Valdez has been one of the most consistent batters for the P-Nats this season, hitting .294 with three home runs and 20 RBI. The Dominican-born outfielder blasted left-handed pitchers at a .383 clip and batted .389 with runners in scoring position and two outs, a situation where the team has struggled in 2009.

To accomodate the move, the Nationals announced that right-handed pitcher Chris Rivera will be added to the roster from extended Spring Training. Rivera has spent time with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League in the last two seasons and was signed by the Nationals in January of 2009.

The P-Nats and Hillcats will play the rubber game of their three-game showdown Sunday afternoon from City Stadium in Lynchburg with first pitch at 2:05 ET.
