May 31, 2009 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Kinston Indians News Release

Game 49 - May 31st, 2009 - 2:00 PM

WINSTON-SALEM DASH (23-25) at KINSTON INDIANS (22-26)

Two Trips - Kinston hit two triples in the second inning of last night's game...it was the first time they had hit two triples in a game, let alone an inning this season.

Old Timers Game - The Winston-Salem vs. Kinston matchup pits the two oldest teams in the Carolina League...not only current, but all-time as Kinston just passed Durham for the second most years ever in the CL.

Eight Was Enough - On May 9th the K-Tribe had just won a season high four straight games and stood atop the Carolina League Southern Division by two games with a 17-13 record. Then the K-Tribe suffered through a season high, eight game losing streak. Stung a bit by the call-up of Matt McBride and the injuries to starting outfielders Tim Fedroff and Roman Pena, the K-Tribe had a lack of clutch hitting. Five of Kinston's last six losses in the streak were by one run with the other loss coming by two runs in extra innings. The South Will Rise Again - The K-Tribe is just 9-16 this season against Northern Division clubs, with four of the seven wins coming against Lynchburg, the team with the most wins in the Carolina League. Kinston finished a stretch of five straight series against Northern Division teams, going a combined 4-12. Kinston is 13-8 against the Southern Division this season, boasting a winning record against every other team in the south.

Road Warriors - After playing 18 of their first 21 games of the season at home in Kinston, the K-Tribe is in the middle of playing 16 of 19 and 23 of the final 29 games of the first half on the road. Kinston is currently at the end of a nine game road trip and will return home for a short three game home stand against Wilmington on Monday, before turning around and coming right back to the dash city on Thursday.
